Kate and Stephen Get Married in Connecticut

Kate and Stephen were married in July in Kate's hometown in Connecticut. You may remember them from an engagement session I did of them earlier in the summer. Kate's dream was to be married in her childhood garden and then have her reception at the local country club. The WedBoston team had family ties to Kate and put together one of most wonderful weddings I have ever witnessed. The images below are by myself and my second shooter Steve Pugliese. Love to you both Kate and Stephen and your families!

On another note, I again apologize for the negligence in this blog. It has been a very busy season with weddings and Nantucket beach portraits which I hope to post soon.

Brigette and Iain's Lovely Boston Wedding

Please excuse the delinquency of my blog posts! It's high season on Nantucket and I am in the thick of visitors, beach days, cookouts and family beach portraits. I love summer and feel so blessed to live and work on Nantucket.

A great little piece of news is that Bartlett's Farm has published a gorgeous cookbook/coffee table book featuring farm history, recipes from around the island using farm ingredients and my food photography! This was a lot of fun for me to shoot and when we had a book signing the other day many of my clients came in and bought several copies for gifts. I know what all my friends and family are getting for Christmas this year!

It was a gorgeous July day in Boston that Iain and Brigette tied the knot at The Boston Harbor Hotel. I love working there right on the water and it was the first time I worked with one of my favorite brides Alexis O'Mara of Unique Weddings by Alexis. The adorable and yummy cupcakes were by Enchanted Wedding Cakes and the flowers by Winston Flowers. Impress Me Designs did the invitations and lighting was by Suzanne Lowell Lighting Design. Brigette and Iain, I wish you the greatest and most romantic lifetime together!

Emily and Aaron's Boston Wedding

When Tamar Salter Frieze asked me if I'd like to shoot Emily and Aaron's wedding I became very excited! I photographed Tamar and Keith's wedding a couple winters ago and was excited to work with Tamar on a Boston wedding. Tamar is an amazingly organized planner and her team is really friendly and fun to work with. I met Emily and her mother Harriet at their Boston home and we really hit it off. I love working at the Boston Harbor Hotel as well because they are so professional and helpful and of course the location is gorgeous. In fact, I'm headed up to shoot a wedding there tomorrow and I'm very excited.

Ellie and Will's Marvelous Nantucket Wedding

Love and congratulations to Ellie and Will! I'll let the pictures tell the story, as they should! My second shooter, Barbara Clarke, contributed to this coverage.

Before I run off to Boston for a shoot tonight I have to say that I am very thankful that I can share my gift of seeing and creating with such wonderful people. I am grateful for my career and this magical place I call home, Nantucket. I've worked hard for the last 18 years to perfect my skills and fine-tune my style and talent, and I feel so settled and strong in what I am able to offer my clients. Having this all come together is a matter of experience with people and with photography (which really isn't all about just having a fancy camera and web site) while keeping current yet classic. I understand that my clients have options as more and more people come into the field, but I also know that what I offer is above and beyond average. So I've coined a new little catch phrase: Classic, Current, Claudia.

Thanks again Ellie and Will for letting me give you back your wedding through my eye!

Dana and Jon's Nantucket Wedding

Dana couldn't be more beautiful and Jon more handsome. Both are wonderful and sweet. Their Nantucket wedding was perfect thanks to Nicole's team at Unique Nantucket and many other great island vendors. It's always great to see the island team come together to create a stellar day for each couple. There are so many more great photos, but I wanted to get a sampling up before I head off to tomorrow's wedding. We are very pleasantly busy this season and it's hard to find time to blog (a sure sign of a successful photographer!) Don't forget to think of using LOCAL talent when planning your wedding as we are professional and knowledgable of the local venues and people.

A Busy Portrait Day on Nantucket

You know what's fun? Shooting a pregnancy portrait of one of my past brides! Kelly is expecting and I was thrilled to take pictures of her gorgeous pregnant self. I love Kelly's natural demeanor and comfort in front of the camera. Caitlin and Justin Tie the Knot on Nantucket

I was thrilled when Caitlin and Justin asked me to photograph their wedding at Sankaty Golf Club on Nantucket. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and found so many juicy moments at their wedding to sink my photographic teeth into. My talented helpers Mark Crosby and Barbara Clarke contributed to this stellar body of work seen below. There's a lot to be said about having a spontaneous couple and photographers who can go with the flow no matter what the light.

Caitlin takes a moment with Mr. Patches, her beloved companion.

Caitlin worked the soda fountain as a kid so we went in for a little photo shoot there. Mark grabbed this high-five shot.

We were meant to take the bridal party pictures on the Pacific Bank steps, however they were covered with ladders and painters! We quickly changed gears and walked across Main St. to another wonderful Nantucket spot.

While I shoot the bridal party my second shooter, Mark Crosby, gets to do some fun close-ups.

A very tender moment here during the first dance with Dad caught by Barbara Clarke and fun play in the photobooth.

Ellie and Will's Nantucket Engagement Session

Nantucket Historical Association Whaling Museum - Featured Link Of The Week

"The candle factory was built by the Mitchell family immediately following Nantucket's Great Fire in 1846 and close to the end of the island's whaling era. Less than two years later, island businessmen William Hadwen and Nathaniel Barney purchased the manufactory and continued to operate it as a candleworks until the end of whaling in the 1860s. The structure served as a warehouse until its conversion into the offices of the New England Steamship Company in the 1870s. In 1919, the candleworks was outfitted to use as storage and housed an antiques shop. In 1929, the building was purchased and converted into the NHA's Whaling Museum, and remained as such for more than seventy years.

Restored in 2005, the Nantucket Whaling Museum features a restored 1847 candle factory, expanded top-quality exhibition space, a fully accessible rooftop observation deck overlooking Nantucket harbor, and the sperm whale skeleton.

In 2008, the whaling museum received accreditation from the American Association of Museums, an honor bestowed upon fewer than one of every twenty-two museums in the country."

Nantucket Engagement Sessions Begin!

Dana and Jon are getting married in June on Nantucket and they came down to the island last weekend to work on their wedding plans with the gals at Unique Nantucket and to have their engagement portrait shot. We had a blast going to some of my favorite spots. We had noon sun so I made sure to use it as a backlight instead of in their faces. I also played around with some post-production tools in these. They will see the before and after shots on their own personal web gallery and I'll let them decide which ones they like best. I think of the engagement sessions almost like a trial hair and make-up run: they can let me know candidly what they do and don't like so that we're prepared on the wedding day. Next it gives the couple a variety of portraits of themselves, some are close-up and personal and can be used in newspaper announcements and some are more scenery oriented. Lastly, it gives us a great opportunity to work together and to get to know each other a little before the wedding day. Can't wait!
